You don’t need dance experience to come. All you need is pair of comfortable clothing & your passion to dance. We had a crew member that had never danced before the auditions and he made it into the team. Even though he wasn’t perfect at perfecting the choreography on the day of the audition, he showed potential to grow as a dancer. We, or I, at least am glad that we invested these past few months on members like him. He improved a lot on his dancing skills from being a shy person into a person who can pretty much freestyle on his own free will. Even if you failed to make it into the team in the past, you should keep on trying maybe you got better on your own and can impress us.
On the serious note, we are looking members who are dedicated to team. Making Unique Movement as one of your top priorities. But not only we want you to be dedicated to the team, we also want you to have the mindset to improve yourself as a dancer as well, there is always room to improve on something. We are no longer a carefree dance crew that’s considered as a high school team performing for only high school shows. We are constantly trying to improve our dancing skills. [Writing from my own point of view again] Well, I wasn’t one of the founding members of Unique Movement. So I will tell you what I had been through and what I know about the past. I joined Unique Movement about a year after it was formed (it was formed in 2009) from being a nobody to a trainee to a nobody to a treasurer/manager and still am a nobody, you will know why when you join the team (=, so that’s another reason to try out for the team ;). Unique Movement was formed by high school students of New Utrecht High School to perform at their school. Unique Movement expanded when friends decided to join and perform at their high schools and also performing at a local community event. We were never professional trained at all. We started dancing by watching Youtube videos and television shows. We had made few Youtube videos in the past. This part year, we had worked with D-Pryde, not once, but TWICE and also working with DaySide Productions that makes Youtube videos. We have members that were part of Epic Motion and HipTop. We are constantly trying to improve ourselves.
Lastly, you guys should come to the event even if you are not trying out for the team. It’s a pleasure to meet dancers in the same community. Just come and have fun and enjoy the piece that we are going to be teaching on the day of the audition. So, please reblog this, specially if you’re from New York City =).
